Dresden And Zittau 1986
Sa, 13. Nov. 2004, 17:20 in 'D'
Nick's Memories of the Wall made me dig out pictures from Dresden and Zittau. 1986.

Fashion in fall 1986.

The ruins of the castle. Still burnt from WW2. They started to renovate it in 1985 and will be finished in 2006.

Prager Straße.

Der Sozialismus siegt - Socialism wins
Yes, we have noticed that.
When you pronounce it in Saxonian dialect it would be "Der Sozialismus siecht". "Siegen" means "to win". "Siechen" means "to be sick", also in a sense of slowly dieing.

Bookshop. You were only allowed to enter the shop with a little basket you got at the entrance.
Zittau - one of the forgotten cities at the polish and czech border. The ethnic minority of the Sorbians lives there. Its members speak this slavic language which also has the dual like Slovene.

Hohe Leistungen zum Wohle des Volkes und für den Frieden. Alles für die Verwirklichung der Beschlüsse des VI. Parteitages der SED
These signs used to be everywhere, telling everybody how great socialism is and what the party does for the citizens.
