A Little Bamberg
Bamberg for sure is one of Germany's most beautiful cities. I made it back on memory lane in July.

Small and as catholic as Catholicism can be, with a strong Basketball team and a world famous philharmony. Go and see yourself sometime. And don't miss going up "on a cellar" to have true and unique Bamberg beer!

Sun Observatory Goseck
Due to a lack of bloggable stuff it's been a while since I posted. Here are a couple of pictures of the truly beautiful and fascinating sun observatory in Germany's Goseck somewhere near Halle/Saale. Ever since the was found in that region there has been tremendous interest in these ancient methods of sun observation.

The area was actually discovered from the air in 1991 and consists of acircular ditch and two concentric palisade rings with portals to the north.

The portals southeast and southwest aimed the sun on the winter solstice. The complex was built probably about 4800 b. C. It was reconstructed in 2005 today is part of the regional "sky ways".

Free entrance, btw. Don't miss the exhibition in Castle Goseck nearby (small entrance fee).

Leipzig, Monument to the Battle of the Nations
I had been a while that I visited Leipzig, City of Heroes. Last weekend, I finally had the opportunity to show my favorite American the Forum of Contemporary History. It shows the history of East Germany until the most memorable days of the peaceful revolution. Afterwards we visited the Monument to the Battle of the Nations and enjoyed the view over Leipzig.

[Quelle: Eines Tages]

German Elections - Basic Knowledge
"What? You are still voting in Germany?", a friend asked me an hour ago. Yes, I do, although this is the first time I doubted the decision. Does it still make sense?

No matter if it does - for those of you who understand German the videos explaining the German election system might be interesting. In case you aren't able to explain the mysterious Überhangmandat.
