One year to go and I need a new passport. In 2000 I waited 9 weeks. My favorite American got his passport at his consulate within 3 days; same time for Tante Kitsch to get her Austrian document.

I checked the website of the German embassy in Vienna today. You never know if the waiting time has increased to 6 months or so. I read that applicants have to wait several weeks (ca. 4), since the passport is being produced in the Federal Printing Office in Berlin.
The American passport is being printed in London.
